Half Term 9 February

Date: 7th Feb 2024 @ 4:43pm

This week Greys class had so much fun making music with Mrs Fowler. They they learned to play musical notes together using gloch and spiels.

In English the children took what they had learnt about contractions and used them to produce a set of 'class rules' and advice about what they 'shouldn't, mustn't and can't do!'

Year 1 have been hard at work applying their knowledge of bonds to addition of numbers to 20. They are doing really well.

Year 2 have continued to learn about the value of money, which denominations they need tp make up given amounts and how to add and subtract various amounts.

In Art the children learned about two abstract artists, walked around the school 'collecting' textures and then experimented with various natural objects collected on the common to make marks on paper. They were so enthusiastic and filled with great wonder. I am so proud of the beautiful 'Kandinskys' they created. if you're able, ask your child to show you theirs on display in our corridor.

In Science we watched a clip about animal and plant habitats and then the children worked together to fill in questionaires related to the topic.

In RE the children learnt about the festival of revised the information about Chinese New year, coloured and cut out dragons and learnt about the Hindu colour festival of Holi.

Our Greys class children are reading so beautifully that we have decided to ask for some of them to volunteer to occasionally read stories to their classmates. See the photo attached of one of our star year 2 readers.

As many of you are aware, we use the very excellent phonics and reading programme called Little Wandle. We were recently asked about the scheme and so I thought I'd share the website with you so that you might read about how you as parents can assist your child. https://www.littlewandlelettersandsounds.org.uk/resources/for-parents/

I hope you all have a wonderful break and shall see you on 19 February for the start of our Spring 2 term.
