Highmoor 13th October

Date: 13th Oct 2023 @ 1:23pm

Welcome to our week in Highmoor.

We have been learning column subtraction this week in maths. Year 4s were working with 4 digit numbers and year 3s with 3. Those of us who are secure in the method have been solving missing digit and word problems using column addition and subtraction skills.

In literacy we tried to improve our piece of descriptive writing from last week which was trickier than it sounds! We had to carefully edit thinking about punctuation, grammatical features and which parts were fine to leave as they were and which needed more detail. We also did some work on adverbs and wrote sentences about Stone Age Boy using them and wrote instructions on how to wash a woolly mammoth!

We learnt about Danebury Hillfort in history and thought about what we can learn about life there from all the artefacts that have been found by archaeologists.

In music we continued looking at how music is set down on paper by creating our own graphic scores to a piece titled 'dreaming of mars.'

In art we have moved on from Stone Age art to Observational Drawing. We used our knowledge of the variety of ways we can use charcoal to make different marks to draw a pear. Our challenge was to use our skills in using tone and texture to make them look as life like as possible.

We are continuing to work on Sound as our topic in science and had lots of fun today on the common investigating how far different sounds travel.

Doodle maths, times tables, reading and spellings as homework as normal please.

Have a great weekend everyone.
