Highmoor 24th November

Date: 24th Nov 2023 @ 2:25pm

Welcome to our week in Highmoor!

In maths we have been continuing with multiplication using mental methods to multiply 2 and 3 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers and using our knowledge of multiples of 10 and 100 to help us. We have also been multiplying 3 numbers. Year 4s have also been reasoning about multiplying and dividing by 1 and zero.

In literacy we wrote our own versions of the ending to the story ‘Fox’ writing in the present tense. We wrote our first draft and then rewrote following feedback. The children all produced some excellent work.

In art we found more ways to experiment with mark making and in particular focussed on really looking to see fine detail within a design (food packaging!) and then deconstructing to create our own. We used a variety of pencils to see the how their qualities can change the way our marks look.

In science we were looking at reversible changes of state….by making ice cream! We changed the particles of liquid milk by cooling it with ice. This made it a solid which we could eat!! When we put the ice cream on the radiator, it melted back to a liquid. What a fun lesson!

We have been researching cities in North and South America in geography and using the 16 points of a compass to describe location.

Homework is Doodle maths, reading and spelling (term 1b, week 4 on the website in case children forget Home School Diaries) please can you help your child to complete these activities, it really does make a difference.

Have a lovely weekend all.
