Highmoor 8th December

Date: 8th Dec 2023 @ 2:28pm

Welcome to our week in Highmoor.

We started the week with reading and maths assessments. All the children were very focussed and approached them with a mature attitude and tried their very best. They should be very proud of themselves.

In maths we have moved on to using the bus stop method for division. We started by drawing place value counters under the bus stop to represent each number and then grouping them into the divisor. We learnt about remainders and by the end of the week we were exchanging when the calculations became trickier. We will continue to practise short division and multiplication next week.

We have been looking at the physical features of North and South America and marking them on our own maps using our own keys. It was difficult trying to match up the features from an atlas or google earth to our maps; we had to look very carefully at the shape of the land to make sure we positioned things correctly.

We have been gathering information from our geography topic to include in our non chronological reports that we will write next week in literacy. We have started typing some information up into google docs ready to use in our reports.

We checked on the progress of our water cycles we made last week in science and had fun acting out the water cycle through the medium of Tai chi!

Homework is Doodle maths, reading and spellings. We are on term 1b week 6 for this week’s spellings. Please don't forget to practise times tables too. This includes the current table that is being learnt - back of home school diary for a reminder of which one - plus the ones that have been previously practised. It is just as important to keep up with tables that have been moved on from as it is the new one. When children are tested on more than 1 table they are often forgetting those that have been taught previously. Year 4s will sit a government test on all tables early in the Summer term. The order in which we learn them is - 2,10, 5, 3, 4, 8, 6, 9, 7, 11, 12. Thank you for your support with this.

Have a great weekend everyone.
