Peppard class - 13th October 2023

Date: 13th Oct 2023 @ 11:07am

Welcome to our week in Peppard class.

In phonics this week we have been learning the new phonemes (sounds) and corresponding graphemes (the written letter)

ck, e, u and r

We have been learning some tricky words

I, is

We will hold a phonics and reading workshop after half term, apologies that it has not been sooner, but there have been extinuating circumstances outside school.

We have sent your child's first book home for you to read and share.

In maths, we have been exploring cardinality, composition and subitising with numbers 1,2,3.  We have played games and enjoyed activities to develop early maths skills.  We have been counting forwards with numbers to 20 and we enjoyed our exercise and counting video with numbers to 100.

Our story this half term has been The Little Red Hen.  We have listened to the story, learned to retell it and made story maps.  Your children were not asked to sit in silence to complete this activity but the concentration in the room and the quiet was so exceptional that I called Mr Steele to see the children workng on their story maps.  Very impressive!

We decided to learn more about the process of making bread before making our own.  We enjoyed all the areas of learning through this practical activity.  We certainly had to use our physical skills with the kneading!  We enjoyed observing before and after when adding yeast.  The children thoroughly enjoyed their first fraction lesson as we divided our one piece of dough.  We followed instructions and weighed out the ingredients.  And we hope you all enjoyed eating the rolls.

Please do bring show and tell again, the same days as last week will be their show and tell day.

Happy weekend
