Peppard Class - 14/07/2023

Date: 14th Jul 2023 @ 11:34am

Welcome to our week in Peppard class.

We have been learning about root words with er and est added on the end.  The children are being challenged with the length of words that they are reading.  We do hope that they will continue to read and write over the holidays to support their transition and confidence in year one.

We have had lovely maths lessons that have been based around popular stories.  We have read 'How many legs' by Kes Gray and Jim Field and we used Numicon to add all the character's legs as we read through the book.  We also enjoyed Harry and the bucketful of dinsosaurs and we did some problem solving using 10 frames.  Our final story was Mr Gumpy's outing and we used boats to see how many animals would fit.

We did a very practical task of counting our teampoints.  We used the 10 frames to make it easier to find the total and we enjoyed learning to count in 10s.

Harry, our pet dinosaur, brought a book to school called 'The dinosaur that pooped a planet'.  We used this book to start our new topic about Space.  We learned about the planets and sang a song before drawing our solar system.

The children are so excited to explore during their choosing time.  We are particulary excited to see how their reading and writing progress supports their independence with writing for a purpose.
